Easter Learning Journey ~ Day 2 ~ Activity 1 & 2

Day 2!

Kia Mau Tonu Te Tumanako - Never Lose Hope
_________________________________________________________________________________
Task ~

Activity 1: When you enter our school look up, you see a New Zealand flag!
This flag was designed back in 1902. That makes the New Zealand flag 115 years old!

It’s your turn to design a flag for NZ - a flag to spread HOPE across Aotearoa at this time.
Use google draw or this flag design site to design your flag.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Activity 2:

Post your new flag on your blog and to score to earn full points you must describe the
flag, in words, below the picture. Please tell us what is on the flag and what inspired your
design.

My flag! :)
_________________________________________________________________________________

My flag is quite simple but it represents the little things in New Zealand.  I didn't have the imagination at the time to come up with a creative flag so I kept it simple.

As you can see there is a white fern on the bottom left. The fern is a native plant to New Zealand. New Zealand uses the fern for a whole lot! You're able to find it our in nature, using the name Ferns  in some of our sport teams and a whole lot more. The fern symbolizes eternal youth and represents new life and new beginnings. To others it represents family and hope for the future generations. Some people get little fern badges as a souvenir from New Zealand. It's pretty cool!

In the middle is a simple yet beautiful Maori pattern/plant. This is called the Koru. The Koru is a fern related plant. Again you are able to find this plant in our (New Zealand) nature and outdoor world. But, you actually can't find them just sitting around in bushes and other places. You can find them on the eastern Great Barrier Island and other off shore islands of Whanganui. It's not just a pattern/plant as it does have a meaning. The koru symbolizes, Peace, New lives and Growth! Some also think that the koru brings good luck to new lives and to families.

Lastly, in the top right corner there are 4 starts. I took the idea from the original New Zealand flag. It represents the southern cross, a constellation. One of the distinctive features of southern hemisphere sky is the constellation of the Southern Cross. The southern cross is the first constellation that New Zealand children recognized. It actually does not represent the New Zealand people but it does represent the New Zealand Government.

Knowing the meaning of the things on my flag inspired me to inform people about what it symbolizes and what the meaning is. We're not just a nation of New Zealanders. We're made up of a whole lot of different cultures! But as Te Reo is one of our main languages I decided to use some symbols and things from the Maori Culture. I am too Maori and love my culture dearly. I think the meaning behind the Koru, Fern and Stars are beautiful and so thats why I decided to use them on my flag :)

Easter Learning Journey ~ Day 1 - Activity 1, 2 & 3

Kia ora, My name is Jahzara! I’m a year 8 at Pt England school. I am the second eldest out of 5. I love to write stories and I love to draw. Anyways, It’s the school holidays and it has been pretty boring. I enjoy going out to places like the park, movies or even the beach but because we're in isolation I can't do much.  To make your holiday a bit more joyful you could always blog. Blogging doesn’t just show what you’ve been doing. It helps your knowledge grow. Not only to become a stronger learner but to also help you get smarter. Team 5 has given us a special Easter Learning Journey to help us blog throughout the holidays. They’ve given us amazing and fun activities to do and enjoy.

So here I am, completing the Easter Learning Journey

Day four of no school | It's Time For The Holidays! |

Today was the fourth and last day of no school. Well, not so much 'no school.' For the past few days we've been doing distance learning online. We were lucky enough to be able to face time our teachers and talk through some of the things we need work on. We even got to play some cool and fun games!

This morning was a bit different. We got to face time all of the teachers from team 5 and majority of the team 5 block. We had the opportunity to say the karakia as a team and even got someone to say our school mihi. After that we sang a waiata. Mrs Moala then explained what we were scheduled to do today. First we had home class!

We worked on Te Whare Tapa Wha. I found it really cool. We even had the chance to face time Whaea Kelly. It was nice getting to see Whaea Kelly and catching up with her. Well, time went by and I had to do a couple things at home. I missed out on our literacy call but I made it back in time for the Assembly live stream. Mr Somerville put together a live stream for parents and students at home to watch. It was like any other assembly except the fact we weren't at school. We said the school karakia and even sang the national anthem. The teachers even did duffy certificates. We did lunch box heros like always and Mr Burt even had a korero for us. Once we accomplished all of that we sang a closing waiata, then the live stream ended. I carried on with my home class work then had a little break outside. I was playing with my little sisters Gene and Faith.

Time passed and it was time to call Mrs Stone. We planned to face time like we did yesterday. Half the class join at 12:30pm and the other half at 1:00pm. As it is the last day of schooling at home, Mrs Stone decided to do something fun with us. We were able to play a couple of kahoot games. It was a lot on fun. For the first game we played a movie quiz. I absolutely love movies!! Especially Disney movies. Lucky me huh :) The quiz was really fun. It made it even better that we got to play as a class. We got to choose a name to join the quiz. My name was Luna. It's short for a flower I really like, Lunaria. Well, we finished the quiz and guess what? I came first! Looks like all my movie watching payed off :)

The second game we played on kahoot was about music from 2019, last year. I changed my name to Blossom, another flower I really like. For the first few questions that got asked, I was coming in the top 5. But as more questions got asked I started to lose points. Don't get me wrong, I love music as well as movies but I think the questions were a bit too hard for me. Half way through the quiz, I started gaining more points and made my way back up onto the leader board. But then I got overtaken by Toby! It was a close game but, coming to the end of the game I regained my points and came in 3rd place! It was a lot of fun.

It was coming to the end of the day and so I decided to write about a few things I've done today. I maybe have even asked a friend to pick a number for the bingo sheet I have. You'll just have to wait and see :)

Well, hello blog viewers again. As you may know It's the last day of distance learning. I just wanted to write a quick thank you to all the teachers that have given up their time to teach us students. Teaching us a whole bunch of new things, at school and at home. Term one has been such a cool and bumpy term! I had a lot of fun with my teachers, friends and family. I really appreciate the things our teachers sacrifice for us. God bless, and have a fantasting holiday!

Passion Project :)

Day Three of no school | Enjoying your day ? |

So today was the 3rd day of no school! At 11:59 New Zealand went into Covid-19 level 4. It's pretty scary knowing the whole of New Zealand are going into Level 4 and are isolating themselves for 4 weeks. I hope you're all doing well :)
_________________________________________________________________________________
Well anyways, distance learning has been pretty cool for the last couple of days. It's going really well. I find that people seem to sleep in when its time to call their literacy teachers but I also find that normal. I hope the teachers are finding distance teaching easy. Hopefully :)

To kick off our distance learning we started with literacy. It was fun! Miss Tapuke asked her students if they wanted to share their learning and knowledge. Marika started us off. The text they read was called East German Childhood. Half the time I didn't really know what they were talking about since I hadn't read their text but Marika gave us lots of information. Miss Tapuke then asked Campion (our reading group) & Waititi (Another reading group) some questions about our text. We answered them and Miss Tapuke sent us off to finish our work.

I'm still behind on some work but I'm trying to finish that off. I worked on my create tasks as time went by. Then it was time to watch PENN. And yes I watched a video off Archives. Me and my sister decided to watch some Fiafia items from 2018. It brought back a lot of memories. Me and my sister, like always went outside and played on the trampoline. Keeping fit :) We had some fruit and came back inside to carry on with work.

Once we came back inside I decided to watch the video Mrs Stone had put on the new presentation she had put up for us. We're still on the topic, Ratios! It's a lot of fun :) I completed the slides then switched back to literacy as I waited for time to pass by. Waiting to call Mrs Stone. Like yesterday, our call started at 1:00pm. I joined the maths call a few minutes before we were suppose to join but half the class had already joined! They were playing Kahoot. After they finished, Mrs Stone removed the people off the call and talked to the other half of the class that joined at 1:00pm.

Mrs Stone explained why we split into 2 groups. We all agreed that having 25 people on one call is very hard to deal with and so we split into 2 groups. Having around 13 people on the call for each session. This time the call was so much better. It wasn't so tragic like the last couple of times :) The other group played kahoot too! It was lots of fun :) We finished our Ratio Kahoot and I came 5th place, not bad. Having some time left we decided to have a fun kahoot game. We did superheros! Believe it or not, I came 2nd! Then we got sent off the call and carried on with our work while I listened to some relaxing music :)

I had a lot of fun today. I reckon I worked really hard. Even though I haven't quite finished my literacy work, I'm almost there!

Make sure to be safe & keep your distance.

Maybe get to know yourself better now that you'll have time :)

God loves you xo

Ratio Resolution !

As you all may know, Pt England and some other schools has been learning online due to Covid-19. We've been doing a lot of cool things. We've been able to contact each other by a hangout call with our teachers and class. Today Mrs Stone had a new slide up for room 11 maths to complete. It was quite easy. The video in slide 1 is just a reminder of how to solve ratio problems.

I hope you're all well and being safe.

Enjoy! :)

Day Two of no school :) | What's up ? |

Today was the second day of no school. We've been learning at home and online with our chrome books! I started my morning off with a nice hot shower :) Then had my breakfast. After that, I got straight into work. I joined Mrs Tele'a at 8:30am, reading the daily time table. Also said the school karakia like usual, may have say the school mihi and sang Wairua Tapu as Mrs Tele'a wanted us too.

Usually on a Wednesday I'd be at Extension but because I was at home I got right into literacy.
This time I decided to do the create tasks because I've already answered the questions. Later on, it was finally time to call Miss Tapuke. This time it was different. She explained our tasks like usual but then gave us a quiz. She asked us questions about our texts, and we answered them :) After the quiz Miss Tapuke decided to send us off the hangout to do our work. I had a little break with my sister. We had a snack and played outside. It was lots of fun. After all, isolation is driving me crazy !

We came back inside and I carried on with my literacy task as my sister Eva went on with her school work too. I then decided to switch to maths :) Mrs Stone had new work set for us. I had a look at the video she had made for us and scrolled down to see a brand new slide waiting to be completed. I had a look at the video she had inserted in the slides and responded when she asked us too. She helped us complete the first 3 slides. She then let us try to solve the following slides.

It was a bit different as our maths call was moved to 1:00pm. Well, it was time to call each other! We did the rest of the word problems on the slide together on the call because some people were still confused (including me :) Once again, the call was very very very tragic! Some forgot to mute themselves and it was just, really confusing. It didn't help that it was a bit laggy but doing learning at home with your teacher is better then nothing :)

Once we finished out hangout Mrs Stone set us off to complete the presentation. We all got removed off the call one by one and did our learning for today. Time went by and all of a sudden it was 3:00pm!

It would've been the end of school but I kept pushing to get a couple of things finished.

In the end i'd say I'm proud of what I've accomplished today.

I hope you're all having a good time, don't forget to be safe!

God Bless xo
