Pauline, Valessa & Jahzara ~ Extn Term 2 2020

As part as the last term and session of extension we have been told to post our research slides if we haven't already. This is from way back, in term one. We were researching ' The Living Earth.' Like always, we got split up into groups of 5 or 6 and base our research off whatever group we're in. We looked at things like the weather.  I was in a group with Pauline and Valessa. Unfortunately, we were in lockdown at the time of completing these slides but we still managed to get our work done!

Task Description:

In this presentation, we were tasked to write what we know about DNA. We had to write in bullet form and we had to understand what DNA is and what is apart of it too. We also had buddies to talk to if we needed help. Throughout the weeks we were also given a book. That book was for us to draw cells and other things that is apart of this topic.

Task description:

Room 4 maths were assigned to complete the slides in the presentation above. I found this task both hard and easy. Mostly because I didn't understand what we were suppose to be doing at first. Once I got the hang of it, I started finding my work easier to do. I hope that we get harder and more work like this in the future.

2018 reflection (EXT)

This term has been a great term. We got to go to camp Bentzon, hangout with my friends and more. one of my favorite things we did this term was being in extension. We got to use 3D pens and do lots of other fun things.

Term 2 we had an amazing term with lots of amazing facts. We went for a trip to the museum and did our talanoa projects. At the museum we got to see lots of ancient artifacts. We had so much touching and feeling the ancient artifacts. We also had so much fun making our Talanoa DLO's because we got to talk about what we learnt.

Term 3 was all about moving your body and about eating healthy food. We had awesome groups to work with and all got good marks. We also went to Gravity. We went to Gravity because our theme was move your body and so we went somewhere fun and somewhere, where we could get fit.

Today we had a shared lunch, for the year 5 and 6 celebration. We came together and celebrated the work we have done all term. We also did secret Santa. I got Amira but she wasn't here and so I had nothing to give her. The food was amazing and was super yummy. We had lot of doughnuts and lots of yummy chips and drinks. For secret Santa I received a slime kit from Austin. I loved my present and I hope everyone has a great and safe Christmas.







Overall I had a wonderfull year!

Camp Concernt (Team Mansion)

This is my team item from camp.


We worked very hard on our camp item. Mansion came up with lots of ideas.  We wanted to add more but by the time we could have it was the last day to figure out what we were doing. I had lots of fun dancing with my friends. Thank you to Miss Tia and Egen for helping us come up with a dance. And also for taking Team MANSION!

Kawau island reflection

Mansion is the BEST! Us year sixes just came back from Camp Bentzon on Kawau island. It was the best
camp I have even gone on.

As we arrive at Camp Bentzon we looked out the water and saw a beautiful blue sea. We went up the front
of the ferry and listened as we waited for the boys to start off their Haka. Peter and Erin were waiting up
the front of the wharf, watching us as we nervously arrived at Camp Bentzon on Kawau  island. We
walked out of the ferry and dropped off our day bags at the front of the camp, we then walked back and
forwards delivering our weekly bags and food off at the front of the deck.

After a long time we then assembled next to the volleyball court where we all placed our day bags. We had
a bit of a talk and in the next minute we were all walking up the dreadful killer hill. I started very strong but all of a
sudden I started to breath quit heavily. We walked halfway round, then sat and ate our morning tea. We
walked some more and found our way on the other side of the hill, I did fall quit a lot but that only happen
while I was walking up the hill.

The next day after we arrived we started our rotations, but started our morning off with a long fitness course
up killer hill. The first activity Mansion B did was kayaking, Erin took that activity. We arrived at the
household of the kayaks and carried them out to the sea in pairs of two. We then made our way throughout
the big blue sea. Even from far away we could see Bentzon A and their sail boats. I did fall out of my boat
but that's only because we were playing a game. I only got to see one stingray, but the others got to see
about 2 or 3.

Our last rotation of the day was sailing. There were 3 people who could go single, Isaiah and Paschal were
the first to stick their hand up but no one else wanted to go, so I slowly put my hand up, all of a sudden
Peter jumped and instantly asked what my name is. I then told him and then became the demonstrator.
Straight after I got sent off my way. Not much wind that day and so I did take a while to move from one
spot to another. I loved sailing, I was the best thing I have ever experienced. There is about one phrase I will
probably always remember which is “Tiller to the sail.”

Thursday was our last day for normal rotations. Our first rotation was the confidence course known as the
concourse. Mr J gave us one task, to make sure all our fear was in our head and to hug your mama. We
climbed up nets and at the top we had to come back to the front. We hugged the pole like we were hugging
our mama. Halfway through it started raining. We were just about to climb through tires. Once it stopped
raining we skipped one course and moved onto the next one. It was lots of fun, but I wish we could have
done more courses.

Last of all we finished the day off with abseiling. We were all confused but we did find out what abseiling is.
We all thought it had something to do with water, but it was really all about climbing a big long wall. I was
terrified. Paschal was busting to go first, but all of a sudden he backed out. I was supposed to go second but
because Paschal backed out I had to go first. I really didn’t want to go but I was already hooked in, so there
was no turning back. I started climbing and all I could hear was my heart pounding and people cheering me
on. As soon as I reached the top I looked down, then looked back up. “I don’t want to go down” I said to
myself, then I realized this was going to be the last time I did abseiling for a while so I made my way down
slowly and terrified. I reached the floor and I was so happy.

We had our camp concert on Thursday. Each day at camp we practiced and practiced until we got our
dances perfect. Team Mansion used 3 songs. Who run the world? (girls!), I want it that way and all over.
We had a pretty good dance, lots of levels because the judges were looking for that. Concert night is also
known as prize giving. During prize giving I got best girl sailor. For our item we came second place. We
were tempting to come first.

Friday was our last day at Camp Bentzon. Friday was known as sports day at camp. We got to swim, play
volleyball, touch and play bush baseball. The first activity we did was swimming. I was hoping to swim last
but we ended up swimming first. We usually could jump of the wharf but because it was the last day we
just jumped off the pontoon. To get to the pontoon we had to swim there. Some people needed life jackets
because it was deep. I didn’t need one because I am a good swimmer. When we did our activities we got to
have another team with us usually playing against them.

The ending game we play was bush baseball. It was called bush baseball because we were playing baseball
in the bushes. We were playing against Bentzon A. Some of the bases were hidden but luckily people had
to stand by them. The score was 21-42 to Bentzon A, I think. We had so much fun even though we did
lose all our games.

My highlight of camp probably had to be every time we were in the water. I love being in water. I wish we
could have swam all day! I loved going swimming, kayaking, sailing, jumping off the pontoon and
jumping off the wharf.

I would like to say a big thank you to all the parent that turned up to camp and help us with our activities.
Thank you to Peter and Erin for doing this camp every year for the year sixes. I would also like to thank
my parents for providing the money for me to come to camp. One more thank you to all the teachers that
made this camp possible.

Overall this camp has been my favorite so far. Lovely place, amazing games, beautiful water and wonderful
weather. I would love to go back to Kawau island anytime soon.

Cave Art animation Term 4

Walt: Learn about different types of arts.

Task Description:

In this animation I have done a cave art animation. There are a group of friends who need food. One day they went for a walk and found a big wild pig. They wanted that for there dinner but they couldn't do it all on there own so they needed to find more people they did and defeated the wild pig.  They finally had enough food for the family for a lest 3 months. I am very proud of this animation as I did edit quite a lot.

Sponge throw!

Walt: Create a successful recount

Water, what is water? Well, in my perspective water is life, fun, wet, cold and more. But what is water to you when you get to throw it at your teacher!?

This morning it was a bit more fun than usual. We started our morning off with getting ready for an
extreme fun time! Before we started our extreme fun time, Mr Goodwin gave us a little speech.
Part of it went like this, “you (as in all the team 4 classes) are going to be having a great time,
but your teachers not so much. This morning I saw teachers with a bag of spare clothes and a towel so
I had an Idea what we're going to do. We lined up outside, and walked in a squiggly line to the bottom
field and with a loud voice we received our instructions from Mr Somerville and Mr Jacobson.

Mr Somerville and Mr Jacobson had a bright orange vest on, as in they were going to do some road
works. Mr Somerville started us off with a big, good morning team, we all replied with echoing voices all
around the place. In that time our teachers were taking off jumpers, shoes and replacing them with
flippers floaties and goggles. In front of the classes were all together 9 colorful buckets filled up with
water and sponges and in front of the bucket were three chairs. We got into our literacy classes and
made three lines in front of the three buckets. I knew for sure what we were going to be doing, we were
going to chuck the wet sponges at our teachers. No wonder why our teachers were a bit stroppy this
morning.

Time to launch! The first set of people walked up to the buckets grabbed there sponges and released as
Mr Somerville yelled “ready, aim fire!” I was way at the back and so I had to wait a pretty long time for
my turn. There was a lot of noise and some pretty good shots too. About 5 minutes went past and it was
finally my turn. My first trow wasn’t so good as I hit Mr Goodwin on the leg, after my throw I went to
pick up my sponge and as I walked past Mr Goodwin I squeezed the rest of the cold water onto his
head. As flying wet sponges went through the air all three of our teachers were shivering by the first
throw.

Mr Goodwin was soaking by the time his whole class had hit him with the cold wet sponges. Half way
though Mr Somerville had called “whoever can get there teacher the most wet, will get to pour the
remaining cold water onto their teacher”. As soon as I herd Mr Somerville call whoever gets there
teacher the most wet, will get to pour the remaining cold water onto their teacher I started aiming for
Mr Goodwin's face. Poor teachers must have been having a hard time.  I was lucky to not miss
any of my shots, but there were a couple of shots that could have heart Mr Goodwin a lot. Our time
was over and Mr Somerville had chose from our three classes who got to pore the reaming water on
our teachers head, Chance, Pascal and Loseti, Chance poured it straight on top of his head Pascal
miss completely and Loseti poured it all over his head too.

This was such a fun time to have a play along with my friends and teachers. I hope we get to do this
another time, although our teachers would probably say no. Overall I had an amazing time getting my
teacher wet!

Task Description:

In this piece of writing we had to create a recount. This was actually a piece of writing for a test. We waited about a week to post this on our blogs. We didn't want to waste such a good piece of writing and so we decided to post it on our blogs.

Blindfolded

Walt: Use correct sentences to help structure 

When you hear the word blindfolds what do you think of? I think of smashing into things, trust, and also obstacle courses. I didn’t expect to be blindfolded today!

Our morning in class started off with getting ready for a fun yet nerve wracking experience. To get ready Mr Goodwin made us line up outside. We walked to the wet green field and listened to our intrusions. Our instructions were to find a buddy and sit down. Mr Goodwin told us about what we were going to be doing, we were going to be blindfolded and were going to be taken around the playground. When I heard the word blindfolds and playground I think my heart rate went up a lot with excitement. 

My buddy was Eden. Eden and I were politely arguing about who was going to be blindfolded and who was going to lead. Once we finished arguing it ended up to be that I was going to be blindfolded first. I put the black blindfold on and set off to my journey. I felt like I could trust Eden and so I just let her take me anywhere. We went on the monkey bars, climbed up the ladders and just enjoyed our time, “stop and listen” Mr Goodwin called (as some of you know we usually call stop, look and listen) He called stop and listen because some of us couldn’t see.

My time was over and it was my turn to lead. First I took Eden to the flying fox, She swung back and flue across to the other side. She did hit her leg a bit, although I was rapidly calling “put your legs up”. I don’t know if Eden did trust me? Because of that I decided to take her on higher things so I could gain trust. We went up some ladders down a pole and stood in the middle of a high wood platform. Mr Goodwin called “stop and listen” once more and our fun exciting time was over.

I didn’t think we would have had so much fun when doing such a scary thing. I really wish I could have gone on many different things and, also wish we could have done this all day. Overall this experience was so much fun, I hope we could do more things like this more often!

Task Description:

In this task room 7 had to write a recount. We had to use correct sentence to structure a correct paragraph. We also had to use descriptive language to write a recount. 

Term 4, Te Wa Toi

Walt: Use correct sentences to help structure our writing.

The holidays are over and school has started again. The theme this term is all about art. Our theme this term is called Te Wa Toi. Are you excited to be back at school?

One of my favorite hobbies are art. This term we are learning about art and what types of art we can use. I love to draw, color and paint. This term we also have prize giving, athletics, manaiakalani film festival, reports and year 6 camp.This is my last term of being a year 6 so I will miss my teachers. It’s gonna be a great term.


My first goal that I want to achieve this term, is to become a leader for year 6 camp, Kawau island. My second goal that I would like to achieve this term is to confidently animate a animation this term. I would like to show more detail and a better descriptive voice over.

I want to learn about why artist give their paintings and drawings certain names and why they put it up for so much money! Another thing I would like to learn about is the meaning behind paintings and why artist would give meanings to their paintings. One more thing I want to learnt about is what is origami.

Overall I think Te Wa Toi will be a fun yet busy term. There’s a lot on this term like camp manaiakalani prize giving, and i’m hoping to reach my goals, and learn lots about different types of art. Overall this will be a great last term of being a year 6!

Task Description:

For this task room 7 wrote about this new term, and what our goal and expectations are. Room 7 also took a lesson on how to write a proper conclusion. I really enjoyed learning about how to write a conclusion, and I hope to learn much more about artist, paintings and origami.

Create Your Own Google Logo

Today room 9 & 10  had 2 special guests Makayla and Nathan. Makayla and Nathan are from OMG tech. OMG tech is a coding company.  If you don't know what coding is, here is you answer. Coding is where you can make you own games you can also play on other peoples games that they have made their self. One of the games that I played was Create our own google logo. Create your own google logo is when you can do anything.  You can change the color, you can do anything to the letters, you can even make them move.  Also even change the background. I made my own google logo, my google logo was representing out topic for this term which is musical madness. Create your own google logo was a cool game to play. I loved creating my own logo.     

My Ambassador Application

This is my ambassador application for 2018. My video is about myself, my family, my school learning and why I want to be an Ambassador. I really hope I will get chosen to become an ambassador because it will help my school learning and my confidence. My confidence is not that bad but I would love to see how my confidence will evolve during the year. If I become an ambassador I would be a role model to all my little sisters. I will also help them if they want to apply. I look up to my older brother because he became an ambassador. Now it is 2017 and next year my brother is a prefect which are the leaders of our school. My brother is the perfect person to look up to because he is confident. He can be shy sometimes but he still gives it a go. Hope you enjoy my movie!!

Immersion Assembly

Welcome everybody to a new start. It’s time for term 4!! Our theme for this term is musical madness. It might of been easy to guess we are going to be learning about music!! Anyways i’m not here to talk about what the theme for this term i’m here to talk about our immersion assembly.

Walking to the hall I was so excited to be back at school. We walked in and saw teachers all dressed up with some musical instruments. Mr Burt was dressed up as Bob Marley. Anyways it was time for team 1. Team 1 played with cards, they played snap. While they were playing they put on some music. When the music was played they changed their emotions so they changed the songs again and their emotions changed again. Finally it was over, once it was over Mrs Hockley said this term we are going to be seeing how music changes our emotions. I thought that was a great idea.

Next was team 2!! Team two’s item was about making music with musical instruments. They sang a song and also played musical instruments they sang in the jungle the mighty jungle. Ms Gaston played the ukulele. Miss Peck played the tambourine. Ms Tumahai played the xylophone, and Mrs Nalder played the bongo drums. It was a great way to start off the term.

You know what i’m going to say it’s time for team 3!! Team 3 did a song story. A song story is when you say something but carries on with a song. Team three’s  item was funny and really cool. My favorite song that they used was me myself and I. My favourite part in the movies was when Miss Davis pretended she was hanging from the roof. Don’t worry it was a green screen.

Now it was time for, team 4!! Team four did carpool karaoke. It was quit funny. Anyways as they were driving music came on and the teachers started singing. As the music changed it got funnier and funnier. My favourite song was one of the rock songs Because all the teachers were really funny and crazy. Then it was over and finally I could stop laughing.

It’s time for team 5. Team 5 was the funniest item that i’ve seen. Team 5 teacher did an  act. Team 5 watched a movie the movie was lion king. Team 5 didn’t watch the whole movie they just watched the part where Simba was put up in the air while the kingdom sang a song. As the movie played on that part of the movie kept repeating and repeating. While the song kept changing and changing. The songs were sometimes funny, sad and quit even funnier. The funniest song was let it go because when Simba got put up into the air the song kept saying let it go! Some people laughed but some people were a little sad.
