Walt: Identify the author's purpose for writing


Task description:

Today in room 4 literacy we learnt about 'what the moral of a story is.' First we watched a video as a class. ~ The boy who cried wolf. We talked about what the moral was and pasted it into the slides. We then read a short story and did the same. We read - 'Lion and the mouse' We did a little recap on what the story was about and what the meaning behind the story was. Kindness given - Kindness gained. Our next task was to read 'The dinner party' We did the same with the previous stories then talked about it with the class. But our last task was to create our own story. We had to have a nice moral too.

Today's literacy work was pretty fun! I enjoyed making my own story and identifying the meanings behind the stories!

The Haunted Mansion

Walt: Write a story using a story starter.

“I’m hoping to bring my diary along with me, wait what's that noise.” Creeping through the bedroom a big scary “ohh it just you.” “MUM!, EVA GET OUT OF MY ROOM!”. I’m getting ready for camp and Eva just walked in with a white sheet over her head, don’t judge, I don’t really believe in ghost. Do you?

We got off the bus, and got into a long squiggly line, passing our bags and putting them onto the ferry.
We all hopped on the ferry. Looking out the window we see dolphins jumping out of the water and whales
blowing water out of their blow horn! “Turns out, mum let me take my diary” “Ohh I don’t feel to good, i’m
going to go and sit down.” Minutes later we arrive at kawau island. STOP, LOOK AND LISTEN” Mr
Somerville called “everyone needs to help get all the bags out of the fairy and after we will be going up
killer hill” All the kids sighed. Passing the bags along we place them all on the floor and start to find our
way up killer hill. Huffing and puffing we all take our time up the hill. Some kids did trip and fall then they
had to come up killer hill all over again. Finally we finish walking up the dreadful hill and find our way to
our cabins.

“Dear Diary,

We have just dropped off our bag in our cabins. I’m in a room with Pisirian, Marika, Levonah, and Eden. Later tonight  we are all thinking of sneaking into that huge mansion next door, we’ll all probably just have a look around. Let me go check with them. They have all agreed on one thing, we are going to the mansion 9:00pm straight see you then. So it’s currently 7:00pm and we just finished dinner. We are all just about to go and play spotlight, wish me luck. Just finished our game and of course team mansion won. Getting ready for bed now (maybe). We are putting some warm clothes on and we are just about to leave.”

We all crept out of our cabin and almost got caught. On the lookout was Mr Goodwin, although he did l
look like he was asleep. He must be sleep walking. We arrive at the mansion and we tried to open the
door but its locked. We went through the back door. Who was stupid enough to leave the back door
open *flash back* Mrs Parrant used that door last. *back to reality* We went through the back door and
had a walk around, later we found things rattling and moving on the spot. We saw the lights flickering on
and off and later even saw doors opening and shutting. “Leave, you must leave” all of a sudden we got
softly pushed out of the door. We ran away and decided to never go back in there again.

When we got back to school Mr Somerville called the 5 girls who were stupid enough to sneak out and go
into the mansion. He showed us a video tape and it showed us sneaking around the mansion. Later after
the video he said  “We played you.” We were all confused. He yelled at us “WE PLAYED YOU GOOD!
It was all a joke someone found your diary and saw what you wrote in it” We all decided to give a lesson
and showed you what might happen if you can never see what might happen, that doesn't make sense.
You get what I mean. I’ll be calling your parents” Marika replied “So if you do show our parent they will
see that  you threatened their own children!” “ok i’ll keep it a secret “ answered Mr Somerville. All of a
sudden Pisirina jumped and said “Then how can you explain us getting pushed out the door.” “We didn’t
do that” answered Mr Goodwin standing out the door. Levonah replied then who did. “AHHHHH” they all
screamed.

The Disaster pizza

Walt:Write a story using interesting beginnings.

Mr Goodwin sat down to order his first Deep Dish Pizza. Only the chef had something different in mind
for Mr Goodwin’s pizza. Instead of the usual ingredients like cheese, tomato, and ham. The Chef instead
used most of the spiciest chilies. First was ghost peppers, next was jalapenos and lastly was Tabasco sauce.
Once the chef finished making Mr Goodwin's special pizza he went out of the kitchen and gave Mr
Goodwin his pizza.While handing his pizza the chef said “why don’t you have a try” Mr Goodwin’s face
turned bright red he felt like something went wrong but he didn’t want to be rude so he took his first bite
and his face turned dark red!!He panicked “I need water, I need water!”

As Mr Goodwin went on and on and on he finally stopped and said “What did you put in my pizza?” The
chef answers It was a surprise check the bottom of your pizza box. On the bottom of Mr Goodwin's pizza
box it said “I used ghost peppers, jalapenos and Tabasco sauce as you base” Mr Goodwin got mad and
said “I am never going to buy pizza from this store again I’m not even going to pay you but I am going to
take this pizza and prank some of my roommates” He said with a grin on his face “maybe Mr Jacobsen”
He didn’t want to prank Mr Burt because Mr Goodwin was scared that he would lose his job. Mr Goodwin
left dramatically without paying. He drove to his hotel and started to search for Mr Jacobsen. At last he
found Mr Jacobsen, but before Mr Goodwin told Mr Jacobsen take a bit he told Mr Burt about the prank,
Mr Burt was on board and wanted to prank Mr Jacobsen too.

They both went to Mr Jacobsen and talked for a bit, then Mr Jacobsen took his first bite. But he knew
something was coming so he tore off a piece really fast and he pretended that it wasn’t really spicy. Mr
Goodwin and Mr Burt were confused at first but then they said "let me see your pizza," then He gave his
pizza to Mr Goodwin, but Mr Burt and Mr Goodwin were even more confused. A while after Mr Goodwin
took another bite and his face turned dark red again. He screamed and then went to get milk, a while after
Mr Jacobsen laughed. Minutes later he got over himself and said “H...O….W is that not spicy. Mr Jacobsen laughed again and said “I didn’t even take a bite” as he went on and on. Finally Mr Goodwin learnt his lesson to never prank a teacher again. Although his mouth is still burning from all that spice.

Task Description:

In this piece of writing I have written a story about a Deep Dish Pizza. Room 7 had to use descriptive language and we also had to use interesting words. We had to write about Mr Goodwin in Chicago. Mr Goodwin gave us a beginning and room 7 got to chose a starter to start writing.

Fun Writing

Walt:Write a fun piece of writing.

There we were getting ready to line up for assembly. Minutes later we walked into the the hall and sat down. Suddenly Mr Burt appeared and talked about the new korero for this week. This week Mr Somerville had the korero ready for the whole school to see. The korero was about Being sensible in the right time. Mr Somerville had an act to show. Seconds later he sat down on the stage stair with a microphone near him. All you could hear while sitting down was silence, until all the students laugh, and laugh, and laugh till they all run out of breath. Mr Somerville shouts at the top of his lungs, “WHO DONE THIS!!!” He says. All the students stop laughing and see that someone has put a whoopee cushion under his seat! They all laugh again and again and again. Nobody knows who put that whoopee cushion on the stage stair, and this case will be forever unsolved. TO BE CONTINUED…….


Task description:

In this task we had to write a fun piece fun writing. Each student from room 7 reading got to complete a form. We had to include our names, a character, a problem and a setting. Once we completed that form Mr Goodwin would get a email and will pick a topic for his students.
